Creamy Mac'n'cheese

8 oz noodles 
1/2 cup chopped onion
2TB butter or margarine
2 TBS flour
1/8 t black pepper
2 1/2 C milk
1 1/2 C cheddar cheese
1 1/2 C shredded american cheese (What does that even mean? I usually use another cheddar. Mom recommends sharp)

1. cook noodles
2.make gravy/cheese sauce. saucepan book onion in hot butter until tender (not brown, usually clear) stir in flour and pepper. Add milk all at once cook and stir over medium heat until slightly thickened and bubbly add cheeses stirring until melted stir in noodles transfer to casserole dish (it says 2 qt?) 
3. Bake 350 25-30 min or until bubbly and heated through. Let stand for 10 min
